Out of body refers to the experiences that many of us had from being ill with Covid-19, and subsequently long term illness with Long Covid. Although the art other pages of my site may reflect this, these particular works were done in response to the physical experiences of an unpredictable and constantly changing condition. Where our body no longer feels familiar, and seems to belong to someone else. We become lost to ourselves, unable to draw upon our usual reserves. There is a rough timeline to these images. In the earlier work, I still had good vision and the use of my hands. Subsequent paintings were made with much parger tools, and my fingers. It’s important for us to show what is lost, often in a disconcertingly short period of time, when Long Covid develops. Particularly because it is becoming a forgotten condition.
