Melting is a series exploring how our glacial landscapes are changing as consequences of global warming. Landscapes are emerging and being covered over through flood and erosionWhen we see these changes, particularly in places that we are familiar with, our first reaction is to strive for recognition. When our sense of what we ought to be seeing no longer matches the reality, it can lead to feelings of distress. A new term has been coined for this felling - solastalgia. It is a feeling of homesickness that happens when we haven't left home, but our familar environment is changing around us. The Melt series has been inspired by Madelien Thien's novel, The Book of Records, where she says that we must be aware of the spaces that we leave behind for our ancestors.
